Wellness Care and Vaccination Recommendations

We at HBAH follow the vaccination and testing guidelines established by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the American Veterinary Medical Association(AVMA) and the American Association of Feline Practicioners(AAFP). Below are the guidelines only. Our veterinarians may alter this schedule in order to best accomodate your pets needs.

Puppies:

  • Physical Examination each visit
  • DHPP Series - 6 - 8weeks, 9 -11weeks, 12 - 14 weeks, and 15 - 17 weeks of age ( D= distemper H= hepatitis P= Parainfluenza P= parvovirus )
  • Leptospirosis series (based on lifestyle) – at 12 - 14 weeks, and at 15 - 17 weeks of age
  • Rabies – should be given at 15 to 17 weeks - 1 year vaccine
  • Bordetella – generally given at 12 -14 weeks and at 15 - 17 weeks
  • Canine influenza - generally given at 6 - 8 weeks and 9 - 12 weeks
  • Intestinal Parasite tests and dewormings are performed as indicated
  • Heartworm prevention begun by 12 weeks

Kittens:

  • Physical Examination
  • Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS blood test at 9 to 10 weeks old (retesting may be recommended at 6 months)
  • FVRCP Series – 6 - 8 weeks, 9 - 12 weeks, 12 - 14 weeks, and 15 - 17 weeks of age (FVR= feline viral rhinotracheitis C= calcivus P= panleukopenia/feline distemper P= pneumonitis )
  • Feline Leukemia - 9 - 11 weeks, and at 12 - 14 weeks
  • Rabies - most effective if given at or close to 16 weeks - 1 year vaccine
  • Intestinal Parasite Tests and dewormings are given as indicated

Adult Dogs 15-18 months of age (that previously had puppies’ vaccinations and Rabies

  • Complete Physical Examination
  • Rabies – 3 year vaccine
  • DHPP – 1 year vaccine
  • Leptospirosis (based on lifestyle) - 1 year
  • Bordetella (based on lifestyle) -6 month vaccine
  • Canine influenza (based on lifestyle) - 1 year vaccine
  • Blood parasite test (Heartworm, Erhlichia, Lyme disease test)
  • Intestinal Parasite Test (should be performed every 6 to 12 months)
  • Wellness Bloodwork (CBC, Blood Chemistries, +\- UA)

Adult Cats 15-18 months of age (that previously had kitten vaccinations andRabies at 3-6 months of age):

  • Complete Physical Examination
  • Rabies - 3 year vaccine
  • FVRCP – 1 year
  • Feline Leukemia (based on lifestyle) - 1 year vaccine
  • Blood parasite test (Heartworm, Feline Leukemia, Feline Lentiviral tests)
  • Intestinal parasite test (should be performed every 6 to 12 months)
  • Wellness Bloodwork (CBC, Blood Chemistries, +\- UA)

Adult Dogs 2 years of age and older

  • Complete Physical Examination
  • Rabies – 3 year vaccine
  • DHPP – 3 year vaccine
  • Lepto (based on lifestyle) - 1 year vaccine
  • Bordetella - 6 month vaccine
  • Blood parasite test
  • Intestinal parasite test (should be performed every 6 to 12 months)
  • Wellness Bloodwork (CBC, Blood Chemistries, +\- UA)

Adult Cats 2 years of age and older:

  • Complete Physical Examination
  • Rabies - 3 year vaccine
  • FVRCP - 3 year
  • Feline Leukemia Vaccine (if indicated based on lifestyle) – 1 year
  • Blood parasite test
  • FIntestinal parasite test (should be performed every 6 to 12 months)
  • Wellness Bloodwork (CBC, Blood Chemistries, +\- UA)
